Based on my love of the specific anatomy of the body and my medical training, this detailed body scan meditation, guides you gradually through the structures and architecture of the body with anatomical terms. “Perhaps become aware of the tibia and fibula in the left lower leg . . . maybe notice the cartilage in the knee joint . . . you may feel the marrow of the femur bone relax . . . you might notice the curves of the small intestine . . . maybe notice the tiny bones of the wrist joint . . . and then maybe picture the entire brain . . . the pineal gland softly glowing . . . the left amygdala . . . the right amygdala.” As you listen, you are guiding your own unique body awareness. You are becoming embodied. Meant to be practiced every evening for a month for full benefit, the Detailed Body Scan Meditation can help you to deeply relax, and to picture your body in a detailed and anatomical way, in full physical health. Research studies have shown that the mindful body scan, which is different in that there is less anatomical detail and does not include picturing the body in full physical health, can lead to brain growth, normalized physiology and helps your mind to relax in preparation for deeper meditation.
