WOMEN PHYSICIANS RETREAT WITH
HORSES
OCTOBER 22ND TO 26TH, 2025 NEAR KAMLOOPS BC CANADA
Are you a woman physician in need of the space and time to recharge and reset given the current healthcare climate?
As a woman physician, are you wondering how to really feel that glow - that inner well being and presence - amidst the challenges of your profession?
Do you wish for some time to recharge, replete and renew, while strengthening your skills in leadership?
Then, maybe this retreat is for you.
Join us for this boutique retreat tailored to the unique needs of the woman physician, with teachings on leadership and burnout prevention enhanced by the power of horses.
For years, physicians have struggled with work life balance. Skills to prevent burnout were once focused on the psychological and creating boundaries, and are now further enhanced by the emerging neuroscience on burnout.
Leadership skills within a physician practice are required. As women physicians, we not only navigate the emotional territory of our patients’ health journey with greater expectations due to our feminine presence, we also work under a mantle of often subconscious workhorse traits that erode our own health, beauty, power, authourity and capacity to be fully in our wisdom and fully in a healthy way of profound compassion - the compassion that brought us to a medicine way in the first place.
Enter horses, masters of discerning the integrity of your words and thoughts, and beings that guide you to notice if, whether what you think you need to transform, is actually what you need to transform. With the power of the Horse, partly explained by neuroscience and physics, and with the Conscious Herd at Epona Rise, be prepared to step more firmly into your authentic physician leadership style, with tools and skills that will last a lifetime.
Ancient societies have known for hundreds of thousands of years, of the importance of the feminine presence in the Art of Medicine. Mystical traditions have honoured the gifts of the woman healer in myth, story and archetypes. In mystical traditions, the woman of medicine is considered a powerful being standing at the doorway to the mysteries of the unseen areas of health and disease, guides to the keys to vitality and well being.
However, in our modern times, the woman physician is depleted by assumptions, projections, and subconscious and unconscious expectations that drain our time, energy and inner resources. Even when we try to reset the story of the woman as a physician leader in the landscape of health, we fatigue and fall back into expected roles. Scientific studies have shown that, just until recently, the difference in how a woman physician is expected to provide nurturance while being doubted as to her authourity, has a very specific wear and tear. Women physicians used to die ten years earlier than the average woman.
We now know that the neuroscience of the female brain, created from the early bathing within the womb by female-specific hormones, has a specifically feminine architecture and way of processing that makes a woman physician unique. When you learn how to work with this in your practice, instead of working against the nature of your brain, you can begin to make leaps and bounds in how you hold space for yourself, in your communication skills, the strength of your connections, your team work and your work-life balance. You settle into a neuroscience-informed self leadership practice that brings you back to an inner certainty that gives you strength in the face of change and adversity.
Studies have shown that success comes not only from committed development of skill, but also from emotional intelligence. In this retreat, you will redefine and reframe what emotional intelligence means to you. You will learn tools to step out of toxic shame around the feminine emotions as irrational, and instead be guided to develop an embodied sense of how emotions and intuition inform our practice as women physician leaders and deepen our self worth.
Horses hold us to stay authentic and present in an embodied manner, and guide us towards a true self worth and confidence. They are unapologetically clear when our current intellectual strategies may be creating obstacles in our lives. They call us back to the centre of the full experience of ourselves, and help us see the blind spots that are holding us back from our authentic leadership style.
Herd Medicine, a valuable aspect of leadership teachings facilitated with the partnership of horses, will guide us deeper in this retreat. After a morning of theory, case studies, and discussion, we will then head out to visit a herd of 29 horses, roaming free on 80 acres. As we engage in reflective exercises with the herd, we will deepen an understanding of leadership, boundaries, feminine leadership, and dynamics that lend insight to how we build partnerships, coalitions and negotiate conflict.
During this retreat, you will also explore how, as a leader, you set direction, align your strategy with your values and vision, take action, and then reassess and collect feedback. Each day, you will have time to reflect on a leadership project, that you will develop further throughout the retreat.
Discussions and case studies will explore how, as a woman physician leader, you think strategically, support structure and innovation, orient to the future, and work confidently with the ever-present change. You will have written curriculum to guide you through the retreat, as well as guided meditations, diagrams, and the in person teachings.
When you sign up for the retreat, you will also have the opportunity to add on 1:1 coaching sessions to guide you in your leadership development, to figure out how to design a balance being an embodied example of health with your work, to refine your authentic leadership style, to deepen your understanding of the neuroscience of resilience and preventing burnout, and to manage conflict related to your leadership role.
Join us for this enchanting retreat in the remote low mountain valley where the Epona Rise land and a herd of 29 horses sits nestled in the purity of nature. Rest in the space between teachings in the valley full of songbirds, farm animals, wildlife, and endless fields and ranches. Sleep deeply in private cabins and connect beautifully in a relaxing lodge overlooking the valley.
THE RETREAT EXPERIENCE
Arrive the afternoon or evening of the retreat to your quiet cabin and a catered dinner at the lodge. We’ll discuss the woman physician as leader, with some shared stories to ground the concept into lived experiences, and discuss the reason that we are drawn to the retreat.
The retreat centre is on 80 acres of land, with private cabins gathered around a central lodge. There are two herds, a large herd that roams several fields, and a smaller herd of elder horses who live with the mini horses near a cozy walk in barn and a large field with a rushing mountain stream. The horses are held in honour, respect and care, and are deeply experienced in guiding humans in the Horse Medicine way founded by Hillary Schneider of Epona Rise.
A mountain stream runs through the land, and sometimes you might see deer, moose, eagles, an owl, foxes and other wildlife. There is enough time between the programming to simply relax on the land, go for hikes or runs on nearby trails, or a swim in local lakes.
During the retreat, you will have the morning to centre in your own practice. Then, after breakfast, you can join us for an optional guided meditation, and then the teaching begins. After the teaching, we take the guidance to the herd of horses, and receive teaching and experiential learning from the horses.
After the program of the day, there is self-directed time to reflect and unwind, followed by dinner, an evening discussion, then the rest of evening free for you to explore the books in the lodge, the land, and integrate from the day.

ABOUT YOUR HOST
I spend a lot of time listening to the language of energy that is the horse-human intuitive connection - more like horse listening than horse whispering, is what it feels like to me.
When we enter into the world where the Horse shows us truths, we touch on a rare intelligence.
I grew up riding on horses since the age of 2 years old. It was relaxed, Western, and on friends’ ranches. When I returned to horses later in life, I discovered Linda Kohanov and the power of the Horse to share a very immediate and perceptive wisdom to help people access their authentic truth and greater skill in leadership.
When I found the Horse Medicine Leadership training, I was so grateful and continue to be, to study with the integrity of the training and the masterful herd that Hillary Schneider has created at Epona Rise.
In my university degrees, I have studied ecology, professional dance, the physics of the electromagnetism in animals and humans, neuroimaging, neuroscience, medicine and the realms of the psyche in psychiatry and in my energy medicine mentorships with various more mystical traditions. I bring an intensively trained lens on the area of the human psyche, and the workings of neuroscience and physics, to the realm of equine-facilitated guiding and leadership development.
It is this very background, steeped in science and the psyche, that led me to see the power of the Horse to reveal hidden truths. As well as the reflective work with horses, I also study the art of intuitive riding.
My interest is to humbly be with the magnificence that the Horse can teach us, while also strengthening leadership and teaching skills, through the intelligence of the Horse, in myself and others.
I have been called a horse translator, and it is this gift which I bring to my offerings, to guide you back to your authentic self, to reclaim lost areas of your innate wisdom, to encourage you to rest and recharge in the rhythms of nature, and to, with the horses, call you back to your wild intelligence and the truth of your dreams and your authentic leadership style.

The herd
Profound. Magical. Master Teachers. Mystical. Ethereal. Powerful. Sensitive. Empathetic. Compassionate. Wild. Fierce.
The Herd at Epona Rise is held in honour, respect and in a practice of balanced horse time with time teaching humans, which allows the horses to show up with magnificence and power. The land is beautiful, with natural rolling wild pastures and a fresh mountain stream that runs through the 80 acres, with wooded areas between the mountain ridges. The horses are held with great care from their experienced caretaker, ad the herd flourishes and is held in great well being.
To be with the herd, held in such a practical and healthy and sacred manner, is a deeply nourishing experience, on all levels. With the diverse background of the horses, there is a depth of knowledge and strength from surviving suffering, so to experience their noble collective and conscious heart space is tremendously beautiful.
